Truth Stones
Prayer stones/Truth stones are small reminders that can be kept with you
throughout the day to inspire change, challenge false beliefs, or
simply encourage a more positive outlook during the course of the day.
Each of these stones were handmade and completely unique. We are asking
for a minimum of a five dollar donation to receive your choice of prayer
stone (you can obviously donate more to The Great Give if you feel
called to do so).
Please email truthstones@gmail.com if you are
interested in purchasing one of these stones and making a donation to
The Great Give.

Why We Support Dove Harbor
A Place of Hope
I came
to Anderson in 2009 in a truly broken place. I was ready to begin a new
chapter in my life. There was a tugging in my heart that I was going
to have to make big life changes. I resolved that the unhealthy patterns
passed down to me from my parents, and their parents before them would
stop with me. I needed a place that would help me carry out that
resolution. I knew God was going to have to be in it, wherever I landed.
It was by Gods grace that there was a space for me at Dove Harbor. With
reluctance and hope, I let go of my past life and everything familiar to let God start to take hold of my future. I have people ask me how long I was a resident at Dove Harbor. My answer is always, “a blessed amount of time." I came into Dove Harbor with nothing. I remember being asked on day
one what my practical needs were. Walking into a room with a basket
full of cleaning supplies, towels, sheets, toiletries, etc. was almost
overwhelming for me. I couldn’t remember being cared for in that way in
many years. During my time at the Harbor, I learned about relationships.
Though it took awhile for me to start to trust, I eventually built
healthy bonds with the other women and staff. I am so thankful God sets
the lonely in families, because now I have a bunch of sisters from all
walks of life. It was key for my journey to have the dove harbor staff
be safe people that I could rely on. I was loved and respected for just
being me. There was no need for the perfection or performance that would
have been my lifeline with past relationships. One of the true tests of
gaining true healthy relationships came with being paired up with a
“mentor.” This is still one of my most precious relationships over the
last couple of years. I know that the DH staff prays over each mentor
match. God was in complete control of pairing us together. We discuss
regularly how God has uniquely woven our lives together. Prayer, meals,
coffee, books, crochet, good conversation, and so much more, make this
relationship special. I believe we were one of the first mentor
relationships and because we both love the Lord, it will be one that is
eternal. For
someone who has never heard of Dove Harbor, I would say this… It is a
place that provides for women practically, spiritually, and emotionally
on a personal level. It’s a place where Gods grace meets broken souls.
It is the place where I gained independence with a safety net of
guidance. It is a haven and a safe place to heal on all levels.
My Safe Haven
I
am a quiet and timid person. I am the type of person who is very
private. That being said I feel lead to share part of my story. A month
before I graduated college I went through some really horrible things. I
withdrew myself from everything important in my life and hid. Jennifer
Wilson, a wonderful lady I hardly knew, who would later become my
mentor invited me to her house to talk. In her backyard, completely
broken, I listened to some of her story, and was able to let some of my
guard down and let her know I was in a really bad place. I had no
support or family who could help me, so she suggested that I apply to
Dove Harbor, and I reluctantly did. For the short time I was there I was
safe, and safety was something that I did not understand. I learned
what safety looked like. Safety is not just physical, but it is
something that is built on trust, and I began to believe in trust. I
made many mistakes and expected the staff to turn their backs on me, but
that never happened. If I had not gone to Dove Harbor I know that I
would have given up on life. Dove Harbor helps women from many different
walks of life, and I am so incredibly blessed to be in a place to pay
it forward.
